In July, Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney litigation counsel Paul Madden disappeared from the firm, and Maryellen Madden joined it.
Paul Madden, 68, spent a career as a commercial litigator at Buchanan Ingersoll, Saul Ewing and Rawle & Henderson. But after 43 years in the law, he was ready for a change: He had never really felt like himself. In February 2014, Madden started hormone treatments to make a transition from a man to a woman.
“When I was Paul, there was a part of me missing. I always wanted to be Maryellen,” says Maryellen Madden. “There was this day a couple of years ago when I was dressing at home, and I looked in the mirror and I saw Maryellen for the first time. I said, 'There you are.'”
