DLA Piper, which earlier this month scored a win in nixing a bankruptcy suit, has picked up key debtors' side roles in a pair of Chapter 11 cases for corporate clients.

The global legal giant is advising St. Louis-based manufacturer Katy Industries Inc. on its bankruptcy filing last week in Delaware, as well as the U.S. subsidiary of a German search optimization company in its own separate bankruptcy petition, one that lists DLA Piper as being owed more than $1 million in legal fees.

A three-year old patent dispute forced Searchmetrics Inc., a San Mateo, California-based unit of Berlin-based Searchmetrics GmbH, into bankruptcy court in Delaware on May 8. In a statement, Searchmetrics cited patent and trade secrets suits pending against it federal and state courts in California as contributing to its Chapter 11 filing in Wilmington.
