In between her years as a litigator at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, a reporter for The New York Times and, most recently, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Crystal Nix-Hines has spent some time as a television script writer, working on shows including “Alias,” “Commander in Chief,” and “The Practice.”

So perhaps it's fitting that the new practice group that Nix-Hines is returning to join at Quinn Emanuel vaguely resembles the public relations crisis management firm at the center of the TV show “Scandal,” minus the presidential assassination attempts and tumultuous personal relationships, one hopes.

Nix-Hines, who practiced in Quinn Emanuel's general and appellate litigation group in Los Angeles from 2008 to 2014 before leaving for Paris and the UN, will be a partner in the crisis law and strategy team that the high-powered litigation firm is launching.
