Trump's US Attorney Pick Reports $1.2M Partner Share at Drinker Biddle
William McSwain, the president's nominee for U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, detailed his pay and some clients in government disclosure documents.

William McSwain, the Drinker Biddle & Reath partner nominated to serve as U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, revealed details about his compensation and clientele in a financial disclosure made public Wednesday.
McSwain's partnership share was $1.26 million in 2017, he said in the disclosure (posted below), and he received a bonus of $53,500.
McSwain disclosed 23 clients that have paid more than $5,000 a year, 13 of which were identified by name. The other 10—seven individuals and three entities—are confidential, the disclosure said, because they are subjects of non-public investigations.
The named clients include Aeolus Pharmaceuticals, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck of America Inc., Penn Mutual Life Insurance Co., Air Products and Chemicals Inc., GeoInvesting LLC, LTK Engineering Services, Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust and Powhatan Energy Fund LLC.
McSwain plans to resign from Drinker Biddle's partnership once he is confirmed, according to his ethics agreement. He will also resign from his unpaid positions, which include leadership roles in a number of area organizations.
McSwain is currently president of the Federal Bar Association's Eastern District of Pennsylvania chapter and is a member of the board for Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, the Philadelphia Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society and the military academy selection boards of U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey and U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello. He was also a member of The Legal's editorial board from 2014 to 2016.
President Donald Trump announced McSwain as his nominee for the Eastern District in December. The Legal first reported in November 2016, days after Trump's election, that McSwain was in the running for the top federal prosecutor position, based in Philadelphia.
McSwain focuses his practice at Drinker Biddle on white-collar criminal defense. His representation of Chester County Magisterial District Judge Mark Bruno during the 2014 Philadelphia Traffic Court ticket-fixing trial resulted in a total acquittal for Bruno.
As an assistant U.S. attorney in Philadelphia from 2003 until he joined Drinker Biddle in 2006, McSwain specialized in matters dealing with the U.S. Department of Defense.
