The bustle in Boston continues as Robins Kaplan announced this week the expansion of its office in the city with two new partners from Partridge Snow & Hahn.

Stephen Wald and Lauren Coppola have joined Robins Kaplan's business litigation group after nearly four years at Partridge Snow. Both lawyers began their respective careers at Boston-based boutique Craig and Macauley. But when that firm dissolved in early 2014, Wald became a partner and Coppola an associate at Partridge Snow, a Providence, Rhode Island-based firm that set up shop in Boston after absorbing the bulk of Craig and Macauley.

Both litigators represent clients in complex commercial disputes with a focus on telecommunications and technology matters. Over time, Wald and Coppola saw their practice became more national in scope. The opportunity to join Robins Kaplan, which has offices across the country, gave them a platform that fits with their clients and work.

Lauren Coppola.

“It just fit our model to move to a more national practice in areas like California and the Midwest, where we have a lot of pending cases and clients,” said Coppola, who is unrelated to famous film directors Francis Ford Coppola and Sofia Coppola.

Robins Kaplan's national platform, as well as its resources and extensive expertise in trial work, helped woo Wald and Coppola, both of whom have worked on high-profile matters over the years.

Wald successfully represented Victorinox AG, maker of the Swiss Army Knife, in a trademark infringement suit and worked to secure a $1.25 million gender discrimination verdict for a former employee at consumer electronics company Polaroid Corp.

“Our clients fit their practice perfectly,” Wald said about Robins Kaplan, which has had an outpost in Boston since 1982. Added Coppola: “This Boston office has great roots in the community [and] we're really looking forward to really deepening those roots here in Boston and being a part of that.”

The American Lawyer recently reported on the influx of Am Law 200 firms into Boston, a city whose legal market has boomed within the past year along with its local life sciences, private equity and technology sectors.

“[Wald and Coppola's] arrival at the firm underscores our long-standing history and commitment to recruiting top talent in Boston over the last 35 years, as we continue to strategically expand our capabilities to better serve the needs of our diverse client base in the Boston and New England markets,” said a statement from Anthony Froio, managing partner of Robins Kaplan's Boston office.

The hires of Wald and Coppola are the latest by Robins Kaplan so far this year.

Robins Kaplan did recruit intellectual property litigator Steven Carlson that same month as a partner for its Northern California litigation group. Carlson previously served as managing partner of Kasowitz Benson Torres' Silicon Valley office.
