The leader of Greenberg Traurig's Miami appellate practice, Julissa Rodriguez, has made a move to Shutts & Bowen's in Miami.

The move brings an appellate partner to the office following the death of Shutts & Bowen appellate partner Stephen Maher last year.

Rodriguez joined Greenberg as an associate in 2002, moving her way up to partner in 2008 and becoming chairwoman of the firm's Miami appellate practice roughly four years ago. Rodriguez, who began Wednesday, said she was attracted to Shutts & Bowen for its deep connection to Miami, as the oldest firm in the city, and its Florida focus.

"It felt right. It just did," she said. Though, she noted, "I grew up at Greenberg. It was not an easy decision."

In March, Shutts & Bowen tapped partner John Meagher to lead the Miami office, its largest with approximately 120 attorneys. Two Greenberg litigation partners in Fort Lauderdale—David Batista and Sara Levy—jumped to Shutts & Bowen in February.

"We wish Julissa well in all of her endeavors," said a Greenberg representative on the departure. "For many years, Greenberg Traurig's appellate lawyers have argued some of the most important legal issues in the state of Florida and nationally, and we look forward to the continued success of our stand-alone appellate practice."
