White & Case has promoted 45 lawyers to partner around the globe—a record number for the firm. The new partnership class is also one of the most diverse ever seen at the firm in the U.S.

The 2019 class has four more partners than last year's record class, and White & Case chairman Hugh Verrier touted the swelling partnership as evidence of the firm's commitment to the five-year strategic plan it launched in 2015.

"This is the second year in a row that we have promoted the largest class in our history, reflecting our commitment to our 2020 strategy," Verrier said in a statement.

So far, the strategy appears to have been successful: White & Case's revenues climbed to $1.8 billion last fiscal year as profits per partner grew to $2.26 million. On multiple occasions, Verrier has said that the firm intends to up its head count to 500 attorneys in New York and London by 2020.

Globally, 17 of the 45 new partners are women—or about 38%. Europe saw the most promotions, with 17 in the region. Frankfurt saw eight promotions, while London had just three—a marked departure from last year, when the firm promoted 13 associates to partner in London alone.

Unsurprisingly, given the firm's five-year strategy, New York City was the top U.S. city, with eight promotions. Miami was the second with three.

The 16-attorney U.S. class was also one of the firm's most diverse. The class featured nine women partners, one LGBTQ partner, one black partner and three Asian American partners.

"We're pleased to see improvement in every metric," said Maja Hazell, head of diversity and inclusion at White & Case. "Fifty-six percent women! I had to look at that a couple of times."

White & Case reigned No. 1 on The American Lawyer's Diversity Scorecard for five years until Fragomen, Del Rey, Bernsen & Loewy dethroned the firm this year.

"We know that there's still work to be done," said Arlene Hahn, head of White & Cases' diversity committee. "There's a constant cycle."

The breakdown of partner promtions is as follows:

U.S. – 16; Mexico – 2; U.K. – 3; Germany – 9; Sweden – 1; Belgium – 2; France -1; Czech Republic – 1; Turkey – 1; Saudi Arabia – 2; Qatar -1; South Africa – 1; Singapore – 2; Hong Kong – 1; Japan – 2.
