Clark Hill's Chicago office is still open following news that a person who works in the same building complex as the firm tested positive for COVID-19, the firm said in a statement.

Chicago news outlets on Wednesday reported that an employee for a commercial real estate developer was diagnosed with the coronavirus Tuesday. The employee works in One Prudential Plaza, the same tower Clark Hill has 110 lawyers and support staff. CA Ventures, the real estate developer, told the Chicago Tribune the employee hadn't been in the office since March 3.

Clark Hill said its critical response team is "identifying potential scenarios and developing response procedures for managing the uncertainty of this dynamic situation." That has included "heightened disinfecting efforts" as well as restricting travel to high-risk countries like China, Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea.

"To ensure the health and well-being of our staff, lawyers and clients, Clark Hill is vigilantly following all of the recommended precautionary protocols," the firm said.

Clark Hill said its employees are equipped to work remotely, a capability Big Law firms have developed so their lawyers and staff can work from home if they're feeling sick or uncomfortable.

Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath on Tuesday closed its two Chicago offices—located on opposite ends of Wacker Drive in the Loop—after its personnel in its Washington, D.C., offices were potentially exposed to COVID-19 by two law firm guests. Faegre Drinker reopened all of its offices, except for its Washington outposts, Wednesday.

As of press time, 25 coronavirus cases have been identified in the state of Illinois. Crain's Chicago Business on Wednesday reported PepsiCo closed down its entire 17-story office building in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood after learning an employee's family member may have been exposed to the virus. Crain's reported that the office was set to reopen Thursday.
