Two Am Law 100 firms — Baker McKenzie and Davis Wright Tremaine — announced layoffs on Tuesday while also confirming plans to roll back some pay cuts.

Baker McKenzie said its layoffs included lawyers and other timekeepers, while Davis Wright said 39 staff members who were initially furloughed were laid off. The announcements come as law firms come to grips with a workforce that is working mostly remotely in the U.S. and with large offices that are mostly empty, and after reports that 60% of law firms saw demand decline during the first half of 2020.
