Fall bonuses continue to divide the legal industry, as more firms announce rewards for work done during the pandemic, while rivals—such as Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Kirkland & Ellis—have found common ground against the concept.

Some legal industry observers are doubtful that paying out—or choosing to withhold—fall bonuses will make a huge difference in firms’ market standing in the long run, especially for the already elite firms.
