John Quinn’s declaration that Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan will hire partners outside of its office footprint was significant if only because the admission represents the biggest firm who has committed to such a strategy. But will this strategy, which Quinn describes as “hiring the best litigators wherever they’re sitting,” become mainstream in Big Law?

It depends on the culture of the firm and its greater business strategy.
