Saul Ewing Arnstein & Lehr has decided to not host its annual summer associate program this year, in hopes of instead using its resources to catch up on development of its youngest attorneys.

The news was first reported by Above the Law, which contends that the Am Law 200 firm, the product of a 2017 merger between Philadelphia-based Saul Ewing and Chicago-based Arnstein & Lehr, is the first big firm to forgo summer associates this year. But in an email to Law.com, a spokesperson for the firm said based on conversations with peer firms, “we are not the only one making this difficult decision.”
