Friday’s Bureau of Labor Statistics jobs report showed the legal industry gained 3,800 jobs in April, an uptick that matches months of steady growth as the profession climbs out of its April 2020 rut.

April’s numbers signify the passing of a halfway point in the profession’s recovery from last spring’s rampant layoffs. February 2020 signified the legal industry’s highest overall employment since the first quarter of 2008, with 1,165,300 jobs. By April 2020, the profession hit a 20-year low at 1,092,100 jobs, according to corrected BLS data.
