While the number and value of larger M&A deals was down this last week, SPACs and IPOs kept dealmakers busy. 

An Aug. 17 lawsuit brought against Pershing Square Tontine Holdings, a SPAC run by Bill Ackman, asked for a declaratory judgment that SPACs are in fact investment companies, which would increase the regulations around the vehicle and, according to some attorneys, overturn 80 years of law.
