The talent war is still raging, with several major markets eclipsing the national average increase in attorney compensation so far this year—even before factoring in widespread associate salary increases.

But the battle may not be as fierce in Chicago, some analysts say, citing a relative lack of certain high-demand industries like life and biological sciences and health care; an already-crowded pool of talent and a less-enticing regional economy.
