For years, Sarah King was a kid who grew up next door to patent lawyer David Healey and wife  Becky on a cul-de-sac in suburban Sugar Land, Texas.

After growing up and moving to the Chicago area, King realized it was time to come out as gay. Before telling her parents, she confided in the Healeys. “I just felt a connection. We had this bond,” King says.
