Big Law bankruptcy lawyers remain confident that a substantial number of distressed companies will file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2022, but November filing data shows that the predicted wave of commercial Chapter 11s hasn’t begun to swell.

According to legal data firm Epiq Global, November saw just 195 commercial Chapter 11 bankruptcy filings, a 70% decrease from November 2020. Total commercial filings were down 33% from this time last year, and overall bankruptcy filings (consumer and commercial) were down 15%.
