The last two years have been pretty atypical for Big Law. But leaders at Barnes & Thornburg say their firm’s performance in 2021 was as much—or more—about what happened before the pandemic than what’s happened since.

The Indianapolis-headquartered firm saw gross revenue rise 13.7% to about $575.5 million and average profits per equity partner increase 14.1% to a little over $1.2 million. It also increased lawyer head count by 6.3% to about 658 lawyers, with growth in both the equity (2.4% to about 247) and nonequity (4.2% to about 181) partner tiers.
