After a blistering 2021, the pace of lateral activity for mid-level associates appears to be slowing, with law firms acting more cautiously to fill listings and lawyers showing less urgency in finding new homes.

Signing bonuses in certain markets are also down from last years’ levels, recruiters say, and the threat of clawbacks on bonuses already earned from moves in the last year is also depressing young lawyers’ interest in moving again.
