The discussion about the latest results of the ALM Mental Health & Substance Abuse Survey was barely underway before journalist Patrick Smith dropped a shocking statistic: "More than 25% of the survey respondents still say they don't believe mental illness is an actual disease."

Smith continued, "We talk about stigmas associated with coming out about having these sorts of issues and what it can mean. That's one thing. But not even recognizing that these are actual issues … I don't really have too many words for that one."

For a little over an hour, the assembled panel traded several words of concern, compassion, and hope as they delved deeply into the implications of the survey in ALM's first-ever Twitter Space. The panel also included ALM Intelligence vice president and general manager Patrick Fuller, Lawyering While Human founder Michael Kasdan, and The American Lawyer's Gina Passarella and Ben Seal.
