As more law firms examine and adjust their partner pay systems, the use of bonus pools has become a popular method to reward star performers.

Just look to Cravath, Swaine & Moore, which confirmed a move away from a pure lockstep partner pay system in December. The firm at the time was short on detail, with an internal memo simply stating that Cravath “is moving to a modified lockstep compensation system.”
