Law firm mergers picked up in Q2 compared to the same interval last year, according to a new report by Fairfax Associates, which also showed that the merger market this year has been dominated by boutique law firms.

After the combinations were announced, firm leaders typically said the mergers served to bring large and midsize firms to new markets or strengthen two small firms to withstand partner poaching.
