The largest dealmaking law firms have seen deal work plummet this year, with many firms seeing dozens of fewer deals and handling much smaller matters, according to newly released third-quarter deal data from Refinitiv.

Because most law firms saw a decline in deal work, the rankings in the third quarter were similar to last year, with Sullivan & Cromwell and Goodwin Procter leading the pack based on total deal value and total deal count, respectively. In a ranking of law firms advising principals in deals, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Kirkland & Ellis were again ranked at the top.
