Davis Polk & Wardwell, Sidley Austin and Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz are guiding talks between Emerson Electric and National Instruments in what would be a $7.6 billion deal, by far the largest deal announcement of the past week. It comes after several other announced transactions in the $1 billion to $2 billion range in the last week.

Emerson Electric, represented by Davis Polk and Sidley, said on Tuesday that it submitted a proposal to acquire National Instruments, which has turned to Wachtell. Emerson said it has been pursuing the Texas-based equipment and instrumentation company since May and that National Instruments had rebuffed earlier offers to negotiate privately, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
