As bankruptcy filings continue to rise this year, Kirkland & Ellis and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison are representing a growing portion of the biggest debtors to file Chapter 11 petitions in 2023.

Together, the two firms are representing at least seven companies with liabilities in excess of $500 million that filed petitions in 2023, including several from an increasingly volatile U.S. retail sector. And their billing is among the top range in Big Law: top-billing partner rates at Kirkland and Paul Weiss were $2,245 and $2,175 respectively, according to bankruptcy filings.
