Foley & Lardner is bringing on a former managing partner and general counsel from SoftBank Investment Advisors in an attempt to fill gaps in California.

Before joining Foley as a Silicon Valley-based partner in the firm’s transactions practice, Brian Wheeler spent more than two years working as general counsel for HENI, an art services and technology company, where he oversaw the company’s intellectual property portfolio as well as its venture investments. Before HENI, Wheeler also spent more than five years at SoftBank Investment Advisors, where he built a team of 40 lawyers managing more than $130 billion in investments. Before that, Wheeler served as general counsel for SoftBank Group International.
