Today, as the current president of the London Solicitors Litigation Association and a partner in a London law firm, it may not be apparent that I came from a low socio-economic background. However, it has undoubtedly had an impact on my career journey, both positive and negative.

I grew up in a working class family in Yorkshire. I went to a state school and was the first person in my family to go to university. When I started my training contract, 20 years ago, this set me apart from many of my peers and those I looked up to.
