What You Need to Know
- Law firms are employing a higher proportion of recent JDs than any year since 1992, a new NALP report on the class of 2023 found.
- Unemployment among recent graduates is as low as any year since the Great Recession, while median law firm salaries rose 10% since the class of 2022.
- By comparison, the class of 2024 is larger but is already encountering a shrinking job market for first-year associates at law firms.
One year after graduating law school, members of the class of 2023 are doing quite well for themselves, thanks largely to the tail end of the talent frenzy at law firms.

The case, filed Oct. 2 in Massachusetts District Court by the Brown Law Firm on behalf of Stephen Austen, accuses certain officers and directors of misleading investors in regard to Symbotic's potential for margin growth by failing to disclose that the company was not equipped to timely deploy its systems or manage expenses through project delays. The action, filed Oct. 7 in New York Southern District Court by the Brown Law Firm, accuses the company's directors and/or officers of falsely expressing confidence in the company’s restructuring of its sales incentive plan and downplaying the severity of decreases in its upfront commitments. The suit was filed Sept. 7 in Wisconsin Western District Court by Levine Eisberner LLC and Siri & Glimstad on behalf of a project manager who claims that he was wrongfully terminated after applying for a religious exemption to the defendant's COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
