More often than failing altogether, law firms that shut down in 2024 were either nearly or entirely absorbed by larger firms looking to add capabilities or enhance their presence in a desirable region.

This year's trend indicates a more predictable path for affected lawyers and staff than the carnage of 2023, which saw the dissolution of three firms that once employed more than 100 attorneys: Stroock & Stroock & Lavan of New York, Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis of Philadelphia, and the short-lived Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith spinoff Daugherty Lordan.
