But a week later, Attalla was indicted by federal prosecutors, accused of conspiracy to possess and distribute narcotics. In essence, prosecutors believe that Attalla is the “general counsel” of the Highwaymen Motorcycle Club, subject of a long-running racketeering investigation.

Attalla has been suspended by the firm, with pay, until the matter is resolved. His defense is being handled by Miller, Canfield partner Thomas Cranmer and local solo practitioner Steven Fishman, who says, quoting former Detroit Tigers manager Mayo Smith, that if Attalla’s a criminal, “I’m a Chinese aviator.”
