Tech M&A improved in late 2009 a long with the rest of the market, with tech deal volume rising from $26 billion in the first half of the year to $49 billion in the second, according to Dealogic. Much of that increase reflects deals covered in recent columns, including Xerox Corporation’s $8.7 billion agreement to acquire Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., and Dell Inc.’s $3.9 billion agreement to buy Perot Systems Corporation [both in Big Deals, December 2009]; Cisco Systems, Inc.’s agreements to buy Tandberg ASA and Starent Networks Corporation for $3 billion and $2.9 billion, respectively [Big Deals, January]; and Hewlett-Packard Company’s $2.7 billion agreement to acquire 3Com Corporation [Deals in Brief, January]. Below are three smaller tech deals signed in the second half of last year, as well as the denouement of the largest tech deal ever.
