Bar Talk couldn’t turn away from the Toyota Motor Corporation congressional hearings. Even when they finally ground to a stop, it seemed the headlines, the analyses, and the predictions wouldn’t stop. We’ve been on the beat for a few years now, so it’s not surprising that we were reminded of a similar storm, a decade ago, involving the Ford Motor Company and Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. Sure, there were differences: Environmentally friendly hybrids instead of massive SUVs. A P.R.–savvy CEO with an abject apology instead of—someone else. But so many of the faces are familiar . . .
