A former U.S. ambassador to Australia and Japan is now senior counsel at Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. J. THOMAS SCHIEFFER will advise global energy, trade, transportation, defense, and intelligence industry clients. Beginning in 2001, he served as ambassador to Australia, and was appointed ambassador to Japan in 2005. Schieffer also once served as president of the Texas Rangers Baseball Club and, last year, made an unsuccessful bid for the Democratice nomination for governor of Texas.
