In a storyline that recalls Maurice Levy, a fictional criminal defense lawyer featured in the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire, prosecutors claim that a Detroit lawyer now on trial in federal court in the Motor City provided legal advice and illegally obtained drugs to a local motorcycle gang. The defendant’s lawyers claim their client was just doing his job as an attorney and that prosecutors are vastly overstating their case.

At the center of the real-life drama is Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone of counsel Hatim “Tim” Attalla, who was indicted last year on a drug conspiracy charge because of his alleged role in a group called the Highwaymen Motorcycle Club, whose Detroit headquarters are subject to an attempted seizure by federal authorities.
