The two firms are working on a deal that will see Darling International acquire privately-owned bakery feed and cooking oil recycling business Griffin Industries for $840 million in stock and cash.

Both companies specialize in rendering, a sometimes sticky and often stinky process involving the conversion of animal waste–such as meat scraps, disused parts, and even dead bodies–into cooking materials and food for farm animals.
