When Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman plunged into insurance litigation, it went after the practice area’s biggest guns. Last January the firm recruited Robin Cohen, the managing partner of Dickstein Shapiro’s New York office, and 12 other Dickstein attorneys. Cohen represents policyholders, such as Royal Philips Electronics N.V. and Barnes & Noble, Inc., which fits with Kas owitz’s strategy to avoid conflicts so it can sue banks and insurers.

Just seven months after winning a $1.67 bil lion verdict for Johnson & Johnson’s Centocor unit in a patent infringement case against drugmaker Abbott Laboratories, Dianne Elderkin moved from Woodcock Washburn to Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld along with partners Barbara Mul lin and Steven Maslowski. The intellectual property guru had practiced at Woodcock Washburn since 1987, when she became the firm’s first female associate.
