Hogan Lovells named corporate partner and former Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc., GC Stephen Kay as managing partner of its Los Angeles office Tuesday. The move highlights the 2,500-lawyer firm’s intention to grow its West coast presence in the wake of the merger between Washington, D.C.-based Hogan & Hartson and London-based Lovells last May. The Am Law Daily spoke with Kay earlier this week about his appointment and the opportunities for growth in the L.A. market.

Kaye Scholer announced a new managing partner for the firm’s 30-attorney Chicago office. Business reorganization and creditors’ rights partner D. TYLER NURNBERG succeeds Michael Solow in that spot, as Solow becomes co-managing partner of the firm at large. (Solow’s appointment as co-managing partner was one of a handful of leadership changes announced by the firm last February.) Nurnberg, who earned a law degree at Northwestern University, is a founding partner of Kaye Scholer’s ten-year old Chicago office. He has represented businesses in workouts, reorganizations, and cross-border restructurings.
