Private equity firm Apax Partners on Monday announced plans to acquire a pair of software companies in transactions with a combined value of approximately $2 billion.

Apax plans to buy Livermore, Calif.-based Activant Solutions, Inc., and Irvine, Calif.-based Epicor Software Corporation, both of which provide business software solutions. (ALM Media, LLC, publisher of The Am Law Daily, is owned in part by Apax.)
