In the three years since Milberg settled the criminal probe into its alleged practice of paying kickbacks to plaintiffs to file lawsuits, the law firm has largely bounced back. It ranked among the top five plaintiffs firms by settlements for 2010, even without its former stars Melvyn Weiss and William Lerach.

But despite its recent success, the firm still can’t escape its past. Lawsuits and arbitrations, some initiated by Milberg, have the firm reliving many of the details of the kickback scandal of the prior decade that at one time led to open speculation about whether the class action powerhouse would survive.
