Mongolia, which borders China and Russia, has become a hotspot for investors looking to tap Asia’s strong appetite for natural resources. Now Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy and Davis Polk & Wardwell have gotten into the act. The firms have advised on the acquisition of a coal mining project in Mongolia.

Milbank, Tweed acted for Mongolian Mining Corp. with a team led by Asia corporate head Anthony Root and Dieter Yih. The firm previously advised the company on its $650 million initial public offering in Hong Kong, completed in October. Yih joined the firm during the same month from Australian firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques, where he had worked alongside Root’s team on the IPO.
