Davis Polk & Wardwell Beijing partner Show-Mao Chen has been best known for his advisory roles on megadeals like the two public offerings that he handled last year for Agricultural Bank of China Limited ($19.2 billion) and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited’s dual listing in Hong Kong and Shanghai ($21 billion). Now Chen, one of The American Lawyer ‘s Dealmakers of the Year in 2011 [April], can add another page to his portfolio.

In May 2011, Chen, 50, was elected by the people of Singapore as a member of Parliament. He ran as a candidate for the Workers’ Party against the People’s Action Party, the ruling party founded by Singapore’s political godfather Lee Kwan Yew and his “men in white,” as they are known for the color of their clothes.
