Sydney-based Corrs Chambers Westgarth has recruited the Australian ambassador to China, a non-lawyer, as co-chair of its China practice.

Geoff Raby, a career diplomat who has served as Australia’s ambassador in Beijing since 2007, will step down Friday. He joins 700-lawyer Corrs Chambers on August 22 as an advisor. Corrs Chambers chief executive officer John Denton says the newly created position is a full-time one in which Raby will build develop client relationships as well as provide non-legal strategic advice about the China market.
