House and Senate leaders have picked 12 members to sit on a new “super committee” charged with reducing the federal deficit.

Consisting of six Democrats and six Republicans, and split equally among members of the House and Senate, the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction is expected to be one of the most heavily lobbied groups in Washington, D.C., as it works on making recommendations for how to cut $1.5 trillion from the federal budget ahead of a November 23 deadline.
