Japan has passed a law to help energy utility Tokyo Electric Power Co. (Tepco) deal with compensation claims from victims of the Fukushima nuclear crisis.

The law aims to save Tepco from bankruptcy and also to pay damages to those affected by the crisis in March, during which three reactors at the company’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant suffered partial meltdowns following an earthquake.
