Freehills and Maurice Blackburn are the lead law firms in the union dispute that led Qantas Airways to ground all its flights Saturday.
Qantas has had long-running disputes with the three trade unions representing engineers, ground staff and long-haul pilots over pay and working conditions. These escalated after the Australian carrier announced plans in August to cut 1,000 jobs, reduce frequencies of certain routes, establish new operations in Southeast Asia and Japan, and order $9 billion worth of new aircraft. Since then, the airline has faced periodic work stoppages and protests.
