North Carolina bank BB&T said Tuesday that it plans to acquire the consumer banking unit of Fort Lauderdale, Florida–based BankAtlantic for about $301 million.

Changing hands in the deal are more than $2 billion in consumer loans and about $3.3 billion in deposits. Not included in the transaction are BankAtlantic’s business loans or its troubled real estate portfolio.
