Clifford Chance is representing Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp. on its planned purchase of a $5.4 billion stake in Anglo American PLC’s Chilean copper business. London energy partner Kathy Honeywood and New York corporate partner Robert Masella are advising on the deal, which is designed to foil a move by the Chilean government to take its own stake in the operation through state-owned mining company Codelco. Vinson & Elkins Shanghai partners Jay Kolb and David Blumental are advising Chinese state-owned energy giant China Petroleum and Chemical Corp. Ltd., better known as Sinopec, on its $3.5 billion acquisition of Brazilian oil and gas assets owned by Portugal’s Galp Energia SGPS S.A. The deal is subject to Chinese governmental approval.
