Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer Hong Kong partners Teresa Ko, Grace Huang, and Calvin Lai are leading a team advising Hong Kong jewelry retailer Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Ltd. on its planned $2.8 billion initial public offering. If completed, the listing will be the largest on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange so far this year, beating the $2.1 billion raised by Prada SpA in June. The company will use the proceeds for a variety of purposes, including research and development, and property purchases. Beijing-based Commerce & Finance Law Offices and Conyers Dill & Pearman are acting as Chinese and Cayman Islands counsels to Chow Tai Fook, respectively. Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson has advised luxury handbag maker Coach, Inc. on its listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Primarily listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the handbag maker has issued Hong Kong depositary receipts representing around 10 percent of its shares–equivalent to $1.83 billion–as a rare “listing by introduction,” which means it will not raise any new funds.
