Allen & Gledhill and Linklaters are advising on the launch of a $5 billion medium term note program by Singapore-based agribusiness company Wilmar International Ltd. The company will issue its own notes under the program and guarantee notes by other issuers. Allen & Gledhill is advising the issuer but declined to name the lawyers involved in the deal. DBS Bank Ltd. is the arranger and dealer of the program, while The Bank of New York Mellon Corp. is acting as trustee. Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom is advising the Chinese energy company that operates the world’s largest hydroelectric dam on expanding its operations overseas. State-owned China Three Gorges Corp. is using profits from that project to launch a $3.5 billion bid for a 21-percent stake in Energias de Portugal S.A., whose assets include interests in the key U.S. and Brazil markets. The deal is part of a scheme by the Portuguese government to relieve the country’s debt amid the euro crisis, and is set to be the largest investment in Europe by a Chinese entity. Skadden partners Gregory Miao and Peter Huang are representing China Three Gorges, along with energy and infrastructure partner Douglas Nordlinger.
