Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and King & Wood Mallesons are advising China’s Bank of Communications Co. Ltd. on a $9 billion private share placement. The Shanghai-based bank, also known as BoCom, is placing the shares with investors including the Chinese Ministry of Finance, HSBC Holdings Ltd., and China’s social security fund. The deal will help BoCom to meet strict new core capital requirements recently drafted by the Chinese government. Celia Lam is leading a Simpson Thacher team advising BoCom as international deal counsel and on Hong Kong law. King & Wood Mallesons Beijing partner Yang Xiaolei is providing the issuer with Chinese law counsel. [Read full story]
